Camp Leo
for Children with Diabetes

Diabetes celebrates its 21st year of providing diabetes education and overnight camping
experiences for children in 3rd through 8th grades.

Our mission statement in part states:
"to provide an overnight camping experience where diabetes is the norm
rather than the exception.”

DIMES FOR DIABETES

The number of campers increases every year and there is an ever-growing need for financial support.

Our MD –19 Diabetes Chairperson Laura Wintersteen-Arleth sent out a letter to asking Lions Club Members to take part in our Lions Club campaign "DIMES FOR DIABETES."

Each of our Zone Clubs should have received a box for the collection of dimes to go towards Camp Leo. Our goal is to support Camp Leo by writing a check in May to the Camp Leo Fund.

I encourage you to share information on Diabetes in your Community. The effort will make a difference in someone's life.

If you would like me to speak to your clubs about Diabetes and to present a DVD program on our Camp Leo and Diabetes, please email me.

2012 Camp Leo information:

Junior campers (3rd, 4th and 5th grades)
Dates: July 20th - July 23rd
Cost: $300

Senior campers (6th, 7th and 8th grades)
Dates: July 15th - July 20th
Cost: $500

Scholarships are available for campers unable to afford our camp fees.

Camp Leo’s dedicated staff of doctors, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, counselors and other volunteers speaks well for the continued growth and qualifications of the Camp Leo program.

Lion Club members play an important roll in Camp Leo.  Donations from Lions to our scholarship fund make it possible that “no child is turned away because they can not afford our camp fees.”  Lions volunteer their time assisting with crafts, archery, fishing and other activities where needed.  Lions volunteer in the dinning hall before and after meals.

Cost to sponsor a camper: $550!
Your generous support allows us to lower the cost of camp for all campers, and waive the cost, except for a $50 registration fee for those campers needing a full scholarship. Donations from Lions to our scholarship fund make it possible that no child is ever turned away because they can not afford our camp fee. Camp Leo truly could not exist without the financial support of the Lions.
