Gig Harbor Lions Club

New Beginnings

Since 1931, The Gig Harbor Lions Club has served with pride in our community.

Beginning in July, 2009, we are very excited to start the next chapter of our long history.
We call it “New Beginnings” and we sincerely hope you will join us
and lend your time and talent to improving the lives of others both inside and outside our community.

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries. Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide.

Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities.

Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health and education needs worldwide.

For the past 79 years, the Gig Harbor Lions Club has provided service and leadership enabling us to become one of the premier service organizations in the region.  This year, we will continue that legacy while making significant changes to our meeting time and day. We will also actively seek local business people to join the Lions and participate in our New Beginnings.

We welcome old and new members alike to join us in our New Beginnings.
Renew your commitment to the club that has been successfully serving our community since 1931.

Starting July 1, 2009 we meet the second and fourth Monday at 7AM at the Madrona Links Golf Course.   In doing so, we intend to draw more interest from local merchants who wish to serve the community while networking and forming business contacts.  The result will be to strengthen and enhance ties to local business while creating new opportunities to serve the community.

So what are the other New Beginnings?  Besides our new time and day, we are adding a very significant sight related project in partnership with the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.  We will provide key volunteer services that will give thousands of people throughout the world the gift of clear vision.  With the eyeglasses collected, sorted and processed by the Gig Harbor Lions, children can learn to read, and adults who have never seen clearly can learn new skills.  In doing so, people half a world away will experience New Beginnings as well.

Closer to home, we’ll continue to build our program Live Successfully with Low Vision, participate in White Cane days, staff the mobile Lions Health Screening Van, provide scholarships and senior project mentoring to our local high schools, provide youth camp opportunities for kids with diabetes, produce our wonderful Photo Tribute to Gig Harbor calendar and continue the fun of sponsoring a Little League team.  While doing all this, we bring a unique brand of humor, fun and fellowship to our meetings, projects and services to the community.

Won’t you join us in our New Beginnings? We meet the second and fourth Monday at 7AM at the Madrona Links Golf Course restaurant.  There you will meet people like yourself, dedicated to improving the lives of others and making our community a better place for all of us.

Join us for our New Beginnings breakfast celebration meeting on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Madrona Links Golf Course, 7am-8am.
